In Europa Universalis V, players become the ultimate Map Painter, shaping the world and its history with every decision. I had the priviledge to work with a wonderful team at SVEP Studios (Stockholm) to bring this anouncement trailer to life. I was involved from an early stage of production to develop the look and feel of the golden paintstrokes that are a key design element holding the images together. I also worked on various Visual Effects and the lookdev of all the map shots until lighting, shading and rendering of the final images.

Design & Development
Developing the gold strokes were my main focus in the early stages of the project. We needed very different behaviour for the strokes to resemble paint in water, slashes, splashes and different dry paint. Also an sigil which was a combination of simulation texture and sculpting work. Besides the gold I also did some simulations for the canon shockwave, the sails of the ship and even an ocean. Overall I touched on many different subjects which was challenging, but also super rewarding. Most of the work was done in Houdini, but also Zbrush, Substance, Cinema 4D and Redshift.
